Name that Weed Identification Workshop
Pulling in the Park
An opportunity for anyone who wants to help clean weeds out of Rocky Mountain National Park! Volunteers will perform manual control of a variety of noxious weed species in the Park, and in return get a free day pass to
RMNP for that day. Volunteers should meet at the west end of the Beaver Meadows Visitors Center parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Just bring yourself, any extra clothing/water you might need, and gloves if you have them. RMNP will
provide all tools and gloves if necessary. Come help the community take care of one of its most valuable local resources! Call 970-586-1364 for more details.
Estes Park Weed Roundup UPDATE!
The Estes Park Weed Roundup will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011, from 9:30 am 1 pm. Bring in your bags of pulled weeds to the event for free disposal, and the first 100 people to bring in at least a full standard size trash bag of weeds gets a free Pulling for Colorado tshirt (kid sizes too!!). Prizes will be awarded to those that bring in the most bags of weeds and the biggest weed specimens. There will also be prizes for anyone that can correctly identify all 10 of the live weed samples that will be on hand. Educational booths will dispense invasive plant education materials and perform free weed identification services. Free food and drink will be provided by local restaurants including Eds Cantina, Poppys Pizza and Grill, Big Horn Restaurant, and the Other Side Restaurant. This is a Pulling for Colorado event, funded by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. No bags of non-weed materials will be accepted. Event Location: Town Storage Area next to the Town Recycle Center, 666 Elm Road. From Hwy 34/36 intersection, take Moraine Ave/Hwy 36 for 1.2 miles towards Rocky Mountain National Park, then turn right on Elm Road. The first of the ELSA series will be Name That Weed Identification Workshop on Wednesday, July 9 from 6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. at the large shelter house at Stanley Park. Residents are invited to bring plant samples to Stanley Park for help with identification and management recommendations. Samples of noxious weeds found in Estes Valley will be provided to help train your eyes for the bad guys that might be lurking in your meadows. Tim DAmato, Larimer County Weed District Supervisor, will be on hand to discuss worrisome weeds and how landowners and the community can address their invasions.
